My Favorite Prop

I think I have found my favorite Halloween prop for this 2011 year. It is my Grave Raver Mummy.

He is just the cutest little mummy ever... and Michael Jackson's Thriller to boot! I'm thinking of getting the Ghost too. I don't usually give in to these "dancers" but I could resist this one. I was dancing all through the store. It's just one of those things that puts a smile on your face every time you play it.

Best Halloween Decoration Ever

Best Halloween Decoration Ever Celebrity Buzz: The Rod Ryan Morning Show on 94.5 The Buzz, Houston.

You have got to watch this video. I know the "Christmas" people started this one a few years ago and it was pretty awesome back then. But to Halloween it out and add Thriller as the theme song is genius!

Halloween Props for 2011

I recently went to a couple of Halloween stores and found some props I liked.

The first is Giggles Clown Zombie Baby. The zombie baby prop Giggles is a lifelike weighted latex and foam creature dressed in a clown costume. It is a motion activated little monster that makes creepy, demonic giggling sounds as his head spins around and his eyes glow red with malice.

The second prop I really liked was the Bloody Mary Magic Mirror. The Bloody Mary Magic Mirror is a plastic and glass mirror that is sound and motion activated. The image of Bloody Mary accompanied by flashing lights and loud screams occurs when activated.

The third prop is a must for any amatuer Halloween haunted house. It is an Animated Jumping Spider. The Jumping Spider animated decoration is a large and realistic looking furry black spider with light-up eyes. The spider moves and emits spooky sounds as it jumps about the room.

The fourth prop on my list is a classic Halloween character, Freddy Krueger. There's no escaping this Life-size Freddy Krueger prop equipped with a trademark green and red striped sweater, brown fedora, and metal-claw Freddy Krueger glove. Animated Life-size Freddy Krueger moves with push button, sound, or motion activation and recites the familiar phrases you know and love in character voice.

Dunn Heat Exhange Ghost

A co-worker of mine, Toni, came to me this morning with an unbelievable picture. She said her son, Phil, had taken the picture between 5:00 - 5:30 am this morning. His intent was to take a picture of his co-worker who was asleep in the chair. He thought his friend looked funny all curled up so he used his cell phone's camera and took this picture.
Can you see the image? It looks like a little girl to me, with long hair. You can see the outline of her shirt or gown but you can see the pile of foil on the table right behind the image.

I know there are apps out there that can add ghostly images to any photo. I, myself, have an app like that. What do you think? Fact or faked?

UPDATE 10:39am

Toni asked her son if it was fake or not because everyone in the office wanted to know. Unfortunately, he was told it was a fake. It is from the GhostCam app... which IS the one I have. Unfortunately, I left my phone at home and couldn't show my co-workers how it works.

Although technology has its perks, this is the downside of it all. Too many fake photos and not enough factual ones.

House of Wax in Galveston Texas

My best friends, Amanda, was living in a small apartment in Galveston, TX. She had recently bought a house, with her mother, Tanny Kay (TK) and was getting ready to move in. I was staying the weekend with her, like I usually did, and helped with the packing.
It was a Friday night, Amanda, TK and I were grabbing boxes and packing what we could. I had a box and was collecting all the candles in the place. There were about 7 to 10 candles all together. Some blue, some red and white. I put them all in one box along with a few other things and taped the box up.
The next morning when I woke up I noticed TK had left for work. I knew it would be a while before Amanda woke up so I decided to fix myself breakfast and watch tv.
I went to the kitchen and made a small meal for myself, toast and cereal. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary at that time. So, I cleaned up my mess and went to watch tv.
After a couple of hours Amanda finally woke up and we decided we would watch a movie together, which was our usual routine.
She searched through On Demand calling out title after title. We had seen 75% of the movies. It came down to House of Wax and another movie. I was in the mood for scary and we both wanted to see Paris Hilton get killed. As a bonus it also starred Jared Padalecki and Chad Michael Murray.
We sat down in the living room and started the film. It had an okay story line and had a few key creepy moments. Half way into the movie we both mentioned how hungry we were. So Amanda paused the movie and I went into the kitchen to make lunch for us both.
We decided on sandwiches and chips. I began grabbing the bread, meat and cheese from the refrigerator, etc. I was slicing on the cutting board, which I had previously used for breakfast, when I noticed a small dot of purple wax. I thought, how strange is that. Then I began to think, I don't remember there being any purple candles in the house, seeing that I packed every one the night before. As I was scratching at the drop I noticed another drop and  then another. I was about 5 drops in before I started freaking out. I calmly called Amanda's name and said, "I don't want to scare you but, there is wax all over this cutting board." She, of course, thought I was teasing her and didn't believe me. I had to tell her a few times I was joking and that I was starting to freak out. So she got up and came into the kitchen to see if I was lying. She started scratching away at the wax as I was mentioning the fact that she didn't have any candles that color. While she was examining the situation I started looking around the kitchen. I was petrified when I saw wax all over the kitchen floor. Slash marks and drops everywhere. Amanda was starting to get scared at this point. While she was looking at all the markings on the floor that's when I noticed the refrigerator had long slashes of the purple wax on the door! I started screaming, "It's on the refrigerator too!" We both flipped out and ran to the living room. We didn't know what to think or do. All the candles had been packed, there were no candles that color and I had been in the kitchen earlier that morning and there were no wax droppings or slash marks of any kind. It still puzzles us to this day. We have no answers on how it could have happened.
Needless to say, we didn't finish the movie and refuse to watch it.

New Orleans - Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo

I recently went on a trip to New Orleans with some close friends and family. It was my first visit to this city, known as one of the most haunted cities in America. The ambiance was exactly how people have described it. Mardi Gras madness, soulful music, Bohemian artists and storytellers recounting legends of pirates, murderers and ghosts.
We stayed at the Ambassador located on Tchoupitoulas Street, just blocks away from the French Quarter. Three 19th-century warehouses were renovated to create this beautiful historic hotel. Everything was within walking distance so, needless to say, I got my excercise in on that trip!
Unfortunately, just like Texas, the weather was hot and humid. Which means a lot of sweating... I hate sweating. Luckily in NOLA, you can carry a "drink" around where ever you go. And by "drink" I mean the fun adult beverages. There was definitely not a shortage of those on the infamous Bourbon St.
My adventure was full of activities. The first, of which, was to "experience" Bourbon St. We made a pit stop at Pat O'Briens to eat and fuel up for the night. There was Shrimp RĂ©moulade, Gumbo, Red Beans and Rice, and Crawfish EtouffĂ©e all around. Not to mention, Crown and Coke, some beer and their famous Pat O'Brien's Hurricane.

As we ate, we had a chance to view some of the characters on the strip. Guys dressed in skeleton and devil costumes, pirate outfits taking pictures with any tourists that were willing to give good tips. When they had a moment to themselves the flasks came out and opened. We all shook our heads. For some reason, it was no shock at all to see these guys drinking their spirits out in public.

Once dinner was over, we proceeded with our night out on the town... drinks in hand. As the night grew nearer the neon signs started lighting up. The ladies of the evening were taking their positions along side their escorts with muscle trying to lure anyone they could into their haven. Promises of free admission and happy hour pricing were called out left and right.

We stopped at one little bar that had the sounds of Fleetwood Mac calling to us. A live band was doing a great job portraying the popular 70's band. So we sat, ordered drinks, and took a moment to soak everything in.
After a couple of sets we left the bar and ventured out into the sea of people on the street. Walking up and down, checking out the souvenir shops and finding any mementos we might want to purchase. They had alligator heads, Voodoo dolls, cajun cookbooks, beignet mixes... all of it screaming, "New Orleans". One shop we saw was a must, Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo. How could we NOT go in?

Marie Laveau was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodou (Voodoo) renowned in New Orleans. She aqcuired the title of Voodoo Queen from her magical career.
The store was filled with charms, mojo bags, candles, jewelry, spell kits and of course, voodoo dolls. In the back there was an open doorway with beads hanging down from the frame. Behind the beads was a small room used for readings of any patron willing to pay a small fee.
I couldn't resist, I had never had a reading before. I paid the fee and waited my turn.
To bide my time, I started reading some of the historical articles that were displayed. I skimmed over book titles and the various charms, watched customers come and go. I peered in to the reading room and noticed the woman ahead of me was crying and grabbing for tissues. This was a little upsetting but also gave me hope that maybe this reader was legit.
A few moments later the woman and her daughter stood up and walked out of the room, thanking the lady for everything. It was my turn.
I stepped into a cozy room no bigger than a broom closet. I paid an extra fee to have my boyfriend, George, come in with me. I wanted someone else to witness the account. I took my seat across from my reader, an elderly woman with a heavy European accent. She started asking my name and my birthdate, which is ususally standard procedure. She had a stack of Tarot cards in her hands and she was shuffling and straightening them. Then I was asked to cut the deck a few times. She them scooped us the piles and spread the cards across the table. I was then asked to place both hands on top so the cards could receive my energy. Then I was asked to pick out a certain amount of cards. I started pulling random cards from the stack. She proceeded to flip the cards over one by one. The first she mentioned involved changes at work, a promotion maybe. I thought, isn't this what all psychics and readers say. I just smiled and said, "That would be nice."
The next few cards, however, changed my opinion on the experience. She flipped a card over and mentioned that I lost someone in my life, a female. Last year my best buddy, Koda Kai, passed away. She was a beautiful Siberian Husky who was my "kid". The next card was flipped and the lady said that this female was still watching over and protecting me. I was blown away, but yet already knew this was true. I started crying. My Kai was still watching over me like she did when she was alive. It was a very comforting feeling to have a confirmation on what I had already been feeling.
The next set of cards was also an affirmation on what I was going through in life. I was told, by the cards, that I had a psychic vampire in my life that was draining my energy from me. This, too, was true. The psychic told me I needed to get out of the situation I was in as soon as possible. She then looked at George and told him he needed to get me out fast. He already knew what she was talking about and said he was working on it. Which brought up the next card. She asked if we were looking in to getting a home together, that was also true.
Every card she turned over she hit the nail right on the head. It was astonishing that these cards were right on the money with what was going on in my life and even what I had planned for the future.
The psychic was then kind enough to let George shuffle the cards and have a small reading. Normally he would have had to pay extra for that. So, he then shuffled and the cut the deck as I had done. He picked out a few cards of his own and she began to describe his situation. She said that he can finally let go of something he's been hanging on to. The dust is finally going to settle. He knew exactly what she was referring to at that moment. She then told him his job would be getting better and he would be joining a partnership soon. That interpretation is still in question, is it work related or personal? Only time will tell.
My overall, first time, experience with tarot card ready was amazing. I'm glad I stopped in at the infamous Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo. Thank you New Orleans, it's an experience I will never forget.
